Background of the Study
The use of military interventions in peacekeeping has become a common strategy in conflict zones around the world, including Nigeria. In regions like Giwa LGA in Kaduna State, which has experienced recurring violence related to ethnic, religious, and political tensions, the military has been deployed to restore order and protect civilians. The Nigerian military has been involved in peacekeeping efforts in the region, particularly following violent clashes and insurgent activities by groups such as Boko Haram and Fulani herders.
Military peacekeeping is often a contentious approach, with supporters arguing that it is necessary to stabilize volatile regions, while critics claim that it can exacerbate violence and distrust between the military and local communities. This study will focus on military peacekeeping efforts in Giwa LGA, Kaduna State, between 2010 and 2025. Limitations include the challenge of obtaining confidential military data and the potential for biases in local perceptions of military actions.
